The demand for Japan’s hand papermaking is going down the drain. Though the production of hand papers (made of traditional fibres) is high in the land of the rising sun, people prefer cheap alternatives from other Asian countries.

Japan has a solid history of hand papermaking. It is an unmatched legacy. Western artists have the skills and talent to reproduce the same content, but nothing comes close to Japan’s washi.
